Cheryl Burke: ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Exacerbated My Body Dysmorphia

The battles behind the scenes. Cheryl Burke revealed that she struggles with body dysmorphia — and she doesn’t think her time on Dancing With the Stars has helped.

“I have body dysmorphia because I’m a dancer,” the ballroom pro, 38, said during a recent episode of the “HypchondriActor” podcast with Sean Hayes and Dr. Priyanka Wali. “I mean, tell me one dancer that doesn’t.”

The California native said that the condition causes her to see herself differently than other people do, regardless of how much she weighs or how she looks. “When I look at myself in the mirror and someone says, ‘Oh, you look amazing,’ I see someone who is overweight,” she explained. “And in my eyes and way of judging myself, not amazing, no matter what I look like.”

Burke explained that she first discovered she “had a problem” when she was “going back through old seasons” of DWTS and remembered how uncomfortable she felt in her costumes. “I was pretty skinny and yet I was still giving wardrobe hassle in our fittings,” she recalled. “Meaning not hassling them, more like, ‘Oh, I feel like s–t,’ or ‘Oh, my God, look at my fat roll.’ It’s so ridiculous, right?”

The Dance Moms alum also couldn’t ignore criticism from viewers and social media trolls — and sometimes people on the set of DWTS. “It was, like, a big deal, like, ‘Cheryl’s too fat for TV,’” the dancer recalled. “And then I had a couple of my coworkers blasting my ass too. I would wake up to, like, [Los Angeles radio station] KTLA [saying], ‘Cheryl’s too fat.’”

Burke went on to say that she knows working on the ABC reality competition has exacerbated her symptoms, but she thinks they might dissipate whenever she decides to leave the show. For now, however, she’s been incorporating dance into her therapy treatments.

“I know dance has saved my life,” she explained.

The I Can Do That alum, who split from husband Matthew Lawrence in January after nearly three years of marriage, previously opened about her body image issues in a YouTube video shared in November 2020. “I used to weigh myself obsessively,” she recalled in the post. “When I would go on trips, I would take a scale with me. ‘Is she too skinny? Is she dying?’ No one was ever really satisfied, I guess. You are in the public eye and it makes you self-conscious.”

Burke added that she would probably have to leave the entertainment industry entirely in order to put her body dysmorphia behind her. “The trauma of going on live television shaking my ass in front of millions of people is not helping,” she explained.

Olivia Wilde Made Her First Public Appearance Since Reports That She And Harry Styles Are On A “Break”

Published

on

Olivia Wilde isn’t shying away from the public eye in the wake of her reported split from Harry Styles.

On Friday evening, news broke that Olivia and Harry had mutually decided to put their relationship on hold, with a source informing People that the pair are “taking a break” after nearly two years together.

The duo were first romantically linked in January 2021, after meeting when Olivia cast Harry to replace Shia LaBeouf as the lead in her movie, Don’t Worry Darling.

Since then, their relationship has been anything but smooth sailing, with the two finding themselves at the center of some of the year’s biggest celebrity controversies, namely focused around their film, which was released in theaters on Sept. 23.

And now, after a tumultuous year, the pair have reportedly decided to part ways, apparently citing conflicting priorities “that are keeping them apart.”

“He’s still touring and is now going abroad. She is focusing on her kids and her work in L.A.,” an insider revealed last week. “It’s a very amicable decision.”

The news made major waves online over the weekend, though it seems Olivia is attempting to rise above the chaos.

Marking her first public appearance since the reports, the Booksmart director took to the red carpet at the 13th Governors Awards in LA on Saturday.

Along with the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Keke Palmer, and Florence Pugh, Olivia arrived at the event looking stunning and, according to some fans, “unbothered” by all the chatter currently surrounding her personal life.

And while we aren’t privy to the inner details of the reported split, Olivia’s coolness makes total sense given that there’s reason to suggest the decision to hit the brakes was fairly civil.

So, if we rewind less than a week ago to Nov. 15, Olivia and Harry seemed to be doing just fine.

That night, which was just three days before the break was announced, Olivia attended Harry’s show in LA along with her son, Otis, 8, and daughter, Daisy, 6, whom she shares with her ex, Jason Sudeikis.

Situated prominently in the crowd, there wasn’t a thing to suggest that Olivia had anything to hide as she danced away to her boyfriend’s hits.

One day prior to this, the pair had been seen at the gym together in Studio City.

Of course, this does raise the possibility that perhaps Olivia was taken by surprise by the split later that week. However, sources have already made clear that this apparently was not the case.

“There is no bad blood between them. Harry didn’t dump Olivia, or vice versa,” a subsequent insider told Page Six last week, adding that it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary that Olivia had decided to attend his show regardless.

“They’re friends, you’ll still see them together,” the source said.

And while the situation is technically being defined as just a “break” for now, the reasons for their split, combined with their upcoming schedules, suggest that an official rekindling might be quite difficult to facilitate.

With Harry about to embark on the South American leg of his tour, and Olivia apparently set to relocate to London to start work on a documentary, sources say making the relationship work would’ve been an “impossible” task.

“Things have been challenging for them as a couple because of Harry’s tour, while Olivia needs to spend time with her kids in London, where they are with Jason,” a second source told Page Six.

As we know, Olivia has wasted no time in facing the public after the break was reported, and it seems like Harry is equally as unphased, having been recently spotted doing a bit of retail therapy.

Just hours before the news of their split broke, Harry was photographed browsing a Ferrari dealership in Beverly Hills, apparently eyeing a $308,000 supercar.

Onlookers said he looked relaxed and happy as he strolled the store, which, along with Olivia’s recent outing, suggests that the exes are taking the break in stride.

Neither Olivia nor Harry have issued any kind of statement regarding the reports. However, in light of the fact that they never formally confirmed their relationship in the first place, it seems unlikely we’ll hear from them anytime soon.

Julia Fox Said She Dated Kanye So He’d Stop Harassing Kim After Being Slammed For Dating A “Misogynist And Antisemite”

Julia Fox Dated Kanye West To Stop Him Harassing Kim Kardashian

If you cast your mind right back to January, you’ll remember that Julia attracted tons of attention when she started dating Kanye West, who now goes by Ye.

At the time, Ye had expressed his hopes for a reconciliation with his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, who had filed for divorce from him a year prior.

In fact, just weeks before he and Julia began dating, Ye publicly pleaded for Kim to “run right back” to him at one of his concerts.

Nevertheless, Julia and Ye — or, as she put it, Juliye — continued with their romance and made a series of appearances together as a couple.

As far as we knew, the pair parted ways around Valentine’s Day, when Ye — who had been sharing regular posts about wanting to be back with Kim and their kids — sent the beauty mogul a truckload of red roses in another bid to win her over.

And ever since then, Julia has remained in and out of the spotlight, acquiring a new wave of fans away from Ye who often express their love for her outspoken persona and feminist values.

However, some people have questioned why the actor chose to date Ye — who, more recently, has sparked outrage for his antisemitic comments — while he was harassing Kim.

Now, Julia has taken to TikTok to explain herself.

In response to a comment that read, “I just wish you weren’t dating a famously violent misogynist and antisemite,” Julia said: “First of all, the man was being normal around me.” She then added that she’s long had “love” for the Kardashians because of their ties in the past.

“By the time me and him got together, he hadn’t been doing anything out there yet,” she said. “The only thing he had done was change the name in the song [to] ‘Come back to me Kimberly.’ That was really the only thing when we met.”

Julia then claimed that she wasn’t even initially keen to “hook up with a celebrity again” and didn’t give Ye much attention at the start.

“He was texting me, I wasn’t really answering,” she said, before claiming that Ye “kept going and going.”

“He was like, ‘You have bad text etiquette.’ And then I was like, ‘Oh my God, Kanye’s yelling at me, like, what do I do?’” she alleged.

And then, Julia claimed that she chose to date Ye in a bid to “distract” him so that he would leave Kim alone.

“But then I had this thought,” she said. “Maybe I can get him off of Kim’s case. Maybe I can distract him, like, just get him to like me.”

“I will say that that month we spent together, he wasn’t on Twitter… He wasn’t on any forms of social media. He didn’t even talk about his relationship,” she went on.

Julia then claimed that reports on the timeline of their relationship in the media were wrong, and that she was actually “out” as soon as “he started tweeting” about his desire to reunite with Kim.

“The moment he started tweeting, I was out,” she claimed. “The media reported on our relationship a week after it happened or something, so during that week I think you guys thought that we were together, but we weren’t.”

“I’d already been like, ‘Dude, I’m not gonna stick around for this shit.’ And also, I realized pretty quickly that he wasn’t gonna take my help. I was like, ‘I wanna help him, I wanna help him,’” she went on.

“I was delusional, I thought I could help him,” she added. “Anyway, didn’t work, and now we’re here.”

Julia then went on to clarify that in spite of everything, she still “deeply” respects Ye “as an artist.”

“That being said, really deeply respect the man as an artist. I don’t wanna shit on that, I don’t wanna reduce his whole career to his really bad moments, you know,” she said, before adding: “But that being said, I stand with the Jewish community, period.”
