Dave Chappelle show canceled by venue hours before performance | CNN

Hours before Dave Chappelle was set to hit the stage in Minneapolis, the venue canceled the sold-out show.

First Avenue, well known as the venue featured in Prince’s 1984 film “Purple Rain,” declined to host Chappelle’s comedy show after backlash over comments in some of his previous Netflix specials that have been criticized as transphobic.

“The Dave Chappelle show tonight at First Avenue has been canceled and is moving to the Varsity Theater,” First Avenue writes in a post on its verified Instagram account.

“To staff, artists, and our community, we hear you and we are sorry,” the statement reads. “We know we must hold ourselves to the highest standards, and we know we let you down. We are not just a black box with people in it, and we understand that First Ave is not just a room, but meaningful beyond our walls.”

The statement continues: “The First Avenue team and you have worked hard to make our venues the safest spaces in the country, and we will continue with that mission. We believe in diverse voices and the freedom of artistic expression, but in honoring that, we lost sight of the impact this would have. We know there are some who will not agree with this decision; you are welcome to send feedback.”

Chappelle has made jokes about the trans community in sets over the years, but his 2021 Netflix special “The Closer” increased ire among some in the LGBTQ+ community and its allies after Chappelle said he was “team TERF,” the term for “trans-exclusionary radical feminist.”

“Gender is a fact,” Chappelle said during the special, which was nominated for two Emmy Awards earlier this month. “Every human being in this room, every human being on earth, had to pass through the legs of a woman to be on earth. That is a fact.”

CNN has reached out to reps for Chappelle for comment.

Fidel Castro’s daughter endorses James Franco playing her father

Alina Fernández, daughter of the former Cuban dictator who died in 2016, has told Deadline she supports Franco playing her father in the forthcoming independent film “Alina of Cuba.”

“James Franco has an obvious physical resemblance with Fidel Castro, besides his skills and charisma,” she told the publication.

There had been public outcry from some over Franco’s casting, including from actor John Leguizamo, because the actor is not Latino.

“How is this still going on? How is Hollywood excluding us but stealing our narratives as well?” Leguizamo posted on his verified Instagram account.

“No more appropriation Hollywood and streamers! Boycott! This F’d up!,” he wrote. “Plus seriously difficult story to tell without aggrandizement which would b wrong! I don’t got a prob with Franco but he ain’t Latino!”

The film tells the story of Fernández, who was born as the result of a love affair between Cuban-born socialite Natalia “Naty” Revuelta and Castro.

“I’m sure that Mía Maestro, an actress I admire, will understand and interpret Naty, my mother, in a unique way and I can’t wait to see her building her character,” Fernández told Deadline.

“The project is almost entirely Latino, both in front and behind the camera,” she added.

Eminem’s daughter Hailie Jade always looks fabulous no matter what she wears or does and that’s exactly what she did in her latest Instagram post. The 26-year-old rocked a sheer silver mesh tank top with a pair of high-waisted black leather joggers and combat boots for a new episode of her Just A Little Shady podcast.

Hailie posted two photos in a slideshow with the caption, “the first ever traveling podcast episode for the just a little shady podcast is out today at 3pm EST hopefully this is just the beginning.” In the photos, Hailie sat in a rattan chair at Lollapalooza while wearing a sleeveless silver mesh tank top that was completely see-through, revealing a silver bralette underneath.

Hailie styled her tiny, open-back crop top with a pair of black leather high-waisted joggers. The pants had an elastic waist and elastic at the ankles and she styled her look with a black crossbody bag and black patent leather combat boots.

As for her glam, Hailie had her brown hair thrown back into a ponytail while parted in the middle, leaving a few pieces out on either side to frame her face. A glossy pink lip and a subtle smokey eye completed her look.

Hailie has been rocking a slew of fabulous outfits lately and aside from this look, she recently wore a tiny white one-shoulder crop top with a pair of high-waisted biker shorts and sneakers in a new photo to promote Puma.

Hailie posted a selfie with the caption, “never too busy to show off my shoes @pumawomen #pumapartner #foralltime.” In the photo, Hailie put her toned abs and tiny waist on display in a super cropped, asymmetrical one-shoulder, white ribbed crop top. She styled the shirt with a pair of skintight, black high-waisted biker shorts and a pair of bright orange, low-rise Puma sneakers.
