We’re all in this together! High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is returning to Disney+ for a third season, and the Wildcats are leaving East High for a new adventure.
The show — HSMTMTS for short — made its debut on Disney+ in November 2019. It was inspired by the three-movie High School Musical franchise, which aired its first two movies via Disney Channel in 2006 and 2007, respectively, with the final installment premiering theatrically in 2008.
Set at the now-iconic East High School in Salt Lake City, HSMTMTS is a mockumentary that features fictional students Ricky (Joshua Bassett), Nini (Olivia Rodrigo), Gina (Sofia Wylie), E.J. (Matt Cornett), Kourtney (Dara Reneé), Ashlyn (Julia Lester), Carlos (Frankie Rodriguez), among others, along with their energetic drama teacher Miss Jenn (Kate Reinders). The first season followed the school’s theater department as they put on a stage production of High School Musical.
“From day one, I always saw us as what I hope is a long-running series, and I knew that if we cast the right talent who had the right chemistry and who were proud theater kids themselves, the audience would become engaged with their journeys,” showrunner Tim Federle told Entertainment Weekly in November 2019. “Casting was key and we looked really, really hard for this group.”
After becoming attached to their favorite characters’ stories, fans rallied for a second season, which premiered via Disney+ in May 2021. This time around, the Wildcats took on Beauty and the Beast in hopes of winning an Alan Menken Award for high school theater productions. Amid rehearsals for the show and their battle against rivals North High, fan-favorite couple Nini and Ricky were dealing with hardships in their relationship — which viewers believed was reflective of the rumored drama between stars Rodrigo and Bassett going on behind the scenes.
“Nini has fully accepted that there’s an exciting other world of possibility when you don’t center yourself on a guy, and I think she’s actually excited about that and obviously has nostalgia for this first relationship and her best friend from her youth. But also sees real possibilities,” Federle told Entertainment Tonight in July 2021 following the characters’ eventual breakup. “Ricky accepts it, he’s read the room. She doesn’t want to hear the song he wrote, it’s time to move on.”
Fans hope the pair will be able to figure out their differences as the show continues, but it’s unclear where their future stands since Nini may have an exciting opportunity in her future. During the season 2 finale, the high schooler received a phone call from Gina’s music producer brother Jamie (Jordan Fisher) — and who knows where that may lead.

Jennifer Lopez Bonds With Ben Affleck’s Daughter Violet, 16, In NYC: Photos
Jennifer Lopez, 53, was spotted with Ben Affleck‘s daughter Violet, 16, in New York City just one day ahead of his 50th birthday. The Bronx native stayed chic and casual in a pair of fitted gray bike shorts with an oversized white button down shirt on Sunday, Aug. 14 as she exited a car with the teenager. She kept her hair back in a bun and accessorized with a pair of oversized wire sunglasses and silver hoop earrings, as well as a $2,980 crossbody Gucci bag. J.Lo opted for the brands’ newly released Gucci Attache large shoulder bag in their newly re-launched blue monogram.
Meanwhile, Violet channeled the 70s with a cropped straight leg rust pant and a tucked in white graphic t-shirt. Jennifer Garner‘s daughter rocked a protective face mask and her usual glasses, staying cool on her feet with a pink and yellow espadrille sandal.
Newly married Ben and Jen were spotted boarding a private jet a day prior in Los Angeles, along with their kids. There was no word on where the couple was headed, but New York was evidently the destination — and possibly where the couple plants to celebrate Ben’s milestone 50th. Notably, The Town actor hails from nearby Boston, MA — so it’s also plausible that the duo could head north to mark the occasion with his mother Chris.
Ben and Jen shocked the world just over a month ago when they legally married in a Las Vegas, Nevada ceremony on July 16. They were joined by just her child Emme, 14, and his daughter Seraphina, 13, as witness for the intimate affair, where Jen wore a vintage dress from “an old movie” (believed to be Jersey Girl with Ben, which came out after their 2004 split), per her On The JLo newsletter.
The Maid In Manhattan star also recently had a birthday last month, which the couple celebrated in Paris alongside kids Violet, 15, Seraphina, and Samuel, 10, as well as her twins Emme and Max, 14. Ben and Jen first stopped by the Monsieur Dior restaurant inside the flagship Dior store at 30 Montaigne Ave., where she turned heads in a hot pink Reformation dress with a midi-length cut. Later that night, they got glammed up for a formal romantic dinner! The duo looked sensational as they held hands walking down the hallway of the Rosewood Hotel De Crillon hotel, with Jen slaying in a black gown.

All About the OGs! Everything to Know About ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5
The beginning of the end! After six years at Netflix, Stranger Things is getting ready to wrap up its journey with a fifth and final season.
Ahead of the show’s highly-anticipated season 4 premiere, creators Matt and Ross Duffer announced that they were going to end the series after one more chapter in Hawkins, Indiana.
“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things,” they detailed in an open letter in February 2022. “At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four but — as you’ll see for yourselves — we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.”
The writing team hinted that they were planning to expand the Stranger Things universe with more projects. “There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things: new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes,” the message concluded. “But first, we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down.”
Later that year, the Duffer Brothers opened up about their vision for the final episodes and addressed the season 4 episode split.
“The original plan was to release it all at once again. But as we began turning over episodes, everyone began to feel the season was too big to be released in one batch — at nearly 13 hours, it is really more two seasons than one,” they told Variety in May 2022 after Volume 1 dropped the first seven episodes. “Episode 7 is as big as any season finale we’ve ever had, so it made sense to everyone involved to split the season there. Episode 7 really serves as the end of the second act — and we feel that our final act had enough meat on the bone to make up Volume 2.”
As fans prepared for Volume 2 of season 4, Ross and Matt revealed that they were hoping the final season wouldn’t have such a long wait. “We always knew that Season 4 was going to be the penultimate season, and that its ending would dive directly into Season 5. During the six-month pandemic hiatus, we outlined Season 5 and pitched it to Netflix,” they shared at the time. “Don’t hold us to it, but the gap should be quite a bit shorter this time, due to the fact that we already have an initial outline, and we can’t imagine there will be another six-month forced hiatus.”
