‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Film Shares First Look at ‘Honor Among Thieves’ During Comic-Con

Paramount Pictures shared the first official look at its Dungeons & Dragons film during the first day of San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday.

Based on the fantasy role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is co-written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley and features a star-studded cast, including Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Regé-Jean Page, Sophia Lillis, Chloe Coleman and Hugh Grant.

“We’re a team of thieves,” Pine’s character announces in the trailer. “And when you do this, you’re bound to make enemies. Sometimes those enemies come looking for revenge.”

“Truth be told, we helped the wrong person steal the wrong thing,” he adds. “We didn’t mean to unleash the greatest evil the world has ever known. But we’re gonna fix it.”

“How do we pull that off?” Rodriguez’s character questions, as the team faces off against a host of fantastical monsters and evil opponents.

The answer? With a talented team of warriors and tricksters. Rodriguez’s barbarian is the muscle, bringing the team’s strength. Their courage comes courtesy of Page’s paladin — “I’m glad he’s on our side,” Rodriguez quips.

Smith’s sorcerer provides the team’s magic, while Lillis’ druid has might of her own, with the ability to transform into a fearsome owlbear.

As for Pine’s character? “I’m a planner. I make the plans,” he says defensively.

“He also plays the lute,” Rodriguez quips, confirming that he’s the bard of the group.

During their panel — which officially kicked off the first in-person Comic-Con event in two years — Goldstein and Daley promised that the movie stays true to the game, with lots of Easter eggs, multiple villains, familiar monsters and “dozens and dozens of spells.”

“We have a lot of your favorites,” Goldstein shared. “For hardcore fans, they’ll see the reality of the game reflected in there.”

The panel also yielded the information that a well-known celeb D&D player (Vin Diesel? Joe Manganiello?) will make a cameo in the movie. And, as with any D&D campaign, the writer-director duo shared that the film leaves the door open for possible sequels and new adventures in the franchise’s future.

ET also spoke with the film’s stars ahead of their panel, and the cast shared how excited they are about the upcoming project.

“I’m just excited to [be at] Comic-Con — we haven’t had this in a couple years in the COVID of it all,” Pine shared. “It’s nice to come back and see the fans, and we’re pumped about the movie… Obviously, we live in a strange time right now, and this film is all about fun and good times and becoming heroes when you don’t think you can become a hero. It has a really buoyant, joyful, fun energy to it, and it’s not a bad thing in today’s world to share that kind of joy.”

Lillis, who told ET that she played a Dungeons & Dragons campaign back in high school, said the film will appeal to RPG lovers and those not familiar with the game at all.

“I think it’s really for everybody, people who love D&D and people who don’t know anything about D&D,” she shares. “I think it’s a really good introduction to it and I think it’s just overall just, high energy… It’s mainly about a group of misfits coming together and finding a lost tablet and accidentally unleashing a big evil and having to save the town — so, a basic D&D campaign.”

While the new film marks the latest blockbuster for Page, who broke fans’ hearts by departing Bridgerton after season 1 and has since appeared in The Gray Man, for Smith it was an opportunity to play a character that “is very different from someone I’ve played before.”

“I just want to make sure that I have my hand in all those pots, because I’m an actor through and through,” Smith previously told ET about joining the project.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves rolls into theaters March 3, 2023.

Megan Mullally Gets Uncomfortably Real About Her Daughter in ‘Summering’ Sneak Peek (Exclusive)

Megan Mullally isn’t afraid to get candid in the upcoming film, Summering.

Directed by James Ponsoldt, the movie takes place in the final days of summer and centers on four best friends — Daisy, Lola, Mari and Dina — who will soon be splitting up when they start middle school. When deciding how to spend their final summer weekend together, they come across a mystery that leads them on a life-changing adventure. The friends make a series of discoveries that are as much about solving the mystery as they are about learning the hard truths of growing up — all while their mothers desperately seek their safe return.

ET exclusively premieres a sneak peek from the film, which opens in theaters Friday, with the mothers — played by Mullally, Lake Bell, Ashley Madewke and Sarah Cooper — all huddled together in a living room as they try to find out what happened to their kids and what kind of shenanigans they may have gotten themselves into, especially after they discover they may have been last spotted at a bar.

While some are busy on the phone trying to get information, the others can’t help but reminisce about their rebellious youthful days. But Mullally’s Stacie is hard-pressed to believe that her daughter, Mari (Eden Grace Redfield), would ever cross that line.

“Mari’s kind of a prude. She gets mad at me when I swear. She walks out of the bathroom when I pee in front of her,” Stacie reveals to her stunned friends. When they ask her to repeat that again, Stacie tries to clarify, hoping to make it seem less of a thing. “Well, not every day…,” Stacie replies, her voice trailing off as she studies her friends’ bewildered expressions as they digest the information.

Written by Ponsoldt and Benjamin Percy, Summering also stars Lia Barnett, Madalen Mills and Sanai Victoria.

Summering opens in theaters Friday.

‘Triangle of Sadness’ Trailer: Try and Stomach the Gross-Out Satire That Won Cannes and Shocked Viewers

The first trailer for Ruben Östlund’s “Triangle of Sadness” is now online to watch, if you can stomach it. The satirical dark comedy won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Östlund, who first broke out with his comedy “Force Majeur,” now has two Palme d’Or wins under his belt thanks to “Triangle of Sadness” and his 2017 satire “The Square.” The new film marks Östlund’s first English-language feature.

“Triangle of Sadness” stars “Beach Rats” and “The Kingsman” actor Harris Dickinson as an aspiring model who gets the chance to vacation aboard a luxury yacht after his influencer girlfriend wins them a free trip. Woody Harrelson plays the yacht’s alcoholic captain. The yacht is full of pretentious and snobby guests who make up the 1%, but they all get their comeuppance when the trip takes a dark turn.

At the Cannes Film Festival in May, “Triangle of Sadness” shocked audiences and caused some walkouts thanks to one 15-minute scene in which vomiting and defecation are displayed in all their graphic details. Neon, who picked up the film for distribution out of Cannes, is fully leaning into the film’s gross-out factor, as the movie’s poster features one of the character’s vomiting out gold puke.

Variety‘s Peter Debruge gave “Triangle of Sadness” a strong review out of Cannes, writing, “There’s a meticulous precision to the way he constructs, blocks and executes scenes — a kind of agonizing unease, amplified by awkward silences or an unwelcome fly buzzing between characters struggling to communicate.”

“Triangle of Sadness” joins “Titane” and Oscar winner “Parasite” in being the third consecutive Palme d’Or winner that Neon has released. The film will be making its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.

Neon will release “Triangle of Sadness” in theaters this fall. Watch the trailer in the  video below.

Jurassic World Dominion Blu-ray Release Date Revealed [EXCLUSIVE CLIP]

Jurassic World Dominion is running towards its home release date with the speed of a velociraptor, and Screen Rant is exclusively debuting a behind-the-scenes clip from the Blu-ray bonus features to celebrate the news. The final film in the Jurassic World trilogy has raked in over $950M in the worldwide box office to date, despite being the sixth in the Jurassic Park franchise. Director Colin Trevorrow may be moving on from dinosaurs, but clearly audiences aren’t done with them yet.

The latest blockbuster arrives on Digital, 4K Ultra HD, and Blu-ray™ on August 16 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. In addition to the film itself, fans will be able to watch the original short film Battle at Big Rock, directed by Trevorrow himself, that takes place a year after the end of Fallen Kingdom. As if things couldn’t get better, the home release includes an extended version of Jurassic World Dominion, meaning 14 extra minutes of dinosaur battles and motorcycle chases through the cobbled streets of Malta.

Speaking of which, Screen Rant is headed to Malta in order to witness the legendary sights of the movie ourselves. As long as no stray dinosaurs make us into dinner, we will report back with recreations of moments filmed in in the historic city of Valletta to pair perfectly with any Jurassic fan’s Blu-ray bonus features. But for now, check out an exclusive clip from one bonus feature in particular:

(Watch the full clip on YouTube.)

The already infamous Maltese chase scene from Jurassic World Dominion is broken down and explained in “Mayhem In Malta.” Director Colin Trevorrow describes his desire to juxtapose the ancient-by-human-standards backdrop of a city like Valletta with the 65 million year old creatures tearing through it. He is joined by stars Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt, who discuss how the setting helped create the same sense of magic felt in the first two films – only this time it’s out of the park and in the real world.
