DC producer Beau Flynn addresses the fan demand for Black Adam to fight Superman in the DCEU. After numerous delays, Jaume Collet-Serra’s Black Adam is finally set to hit theaters later this fall. The highly-anticipated film sees Dwayne Johnson step into the role of the iconic antihero, with trailers teasing a dark, action-packed addition to the DCEU. Alongside Johnson, Black Adam features performances from Pierce Brosnan, Sarah Shahi, Noah Centineo, and Aldis Hodge, among others.
Before trailers for Black Adam were even released, fans have been calling for the character to face off against Superman. Johnson himself, who frequently hypes the film on social media, has promised that the introduction of Black Adam will change the power hierarchy in the DCEU, suggesting that his character will be stronger than Superman. Johnson has already teased that Black Adam will eventually face off against Superman in a future DCEU project, but whether the character is played by Man of Steel star Henry Cavill remains to be seen. In a recent tweet, Johnson also hinted that Black Adam might even feature a Superman cameo of some sort.
Now, in a new interview with Nestor Cine on Twitter, Flynn has also addressed the ongoing fan demand to see Black Adam face off against Superman, echoing some of Johnson’s same sentiments. While not giving too much away, Flynn explains that the demand is very much something that he’s aware of and that he and Johnson plan to take the DC universe “to some places that will get people really excited.” Check out Flynn’s full comment below regarding the fan demand to see the two heroes come head-t0-head:
“The expectations are on our radar and we want to service the fans. We do really…we listen, we want to give the fans what they want. It’s very exciting all the different directions we can go. We do have a pretty good handle on all of that. We’ve had a lot of conversations with DC and Warner Bros., and they are very supportive. And they also believe, you know, all of their energy is behind Dwayne. And they know how he can take things to different places through his platform and his fanship. We are honoured and privileged to be part of the DC universe and I think we’ll take it to some places that will get people really excited.”
Like Johnson, Flynn doesn’t directly confirm that anything is concretely in the works regarding a fight between Black Adam and Superman, but his comment certainly bodes well for fans hoping to see the epic confrontation come to life on the big screen. Although Black Adam’s future in the DCEU is likely largely dependent upon how well the first film performs at the box office, the film has the benefit of starring one of the most recognizable movie stars in the world, who’s also a proven box office draw. While it remains to be seen what role, if any, Superman plays in Black Adam, it seems likely that the two heroes will eventually face off at some point down the line.
While it’s probable that, at some point, Black Adam will fight Superman, it remains unclear what actor will portray the latter character. After Man of Steel, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, many fans are keen to see Cavill continue to portray the role. Unfortunately, however, Cavill’s future in the DCEU remains somewhat of a question mark at the moment. With both Johnson and Flynn hinting that it’s coming down the line, however, fans can be optimistic that Black Adam and Superman will eventually come head-to-head.
