Shazam! actor Zachary Levi claims that his hero could beat Dwayne Johnson in a fight. Released in 2019, Shazam! tells the story of Billy Batson, a young foster child who discovers he has the power to become an adult hero named Shazam. The film is directed by David F. Sandberg and was a hit with both audiences and critics, coming to earn over $366 million at the box office. A sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, is currently in post-production and is expected to release this winter.
While it’s unclear how connected Fury of the Gods will be to the larger DCEU, the film will follow the release of Black Adam this fall. Starring Johnson in the title role, Black Adam is being billed as a major shakeup to the power hierarchy of the DCEU, with Johnson himself frequently bragging about his hero’s strength. Although Johnson has directed much of his playful hostility towards Henry Cavill’s Superman, the actor has previously commented on the outcome of a potential fight between Shazam and Black Adam, strongly suggesting that Levi’s hero wouldn’t stand a chance.
Now, during the highly-anticipated SDCC panel for Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which Screen Rant attended, Levi playfully shoots back at Johnson. The star explains that, in a fight between Johnson and Shazam, Johnson would definitely lose. Levi concedes that Johnson is “a large man” but says that it would basically be no contest because Shazam is, after all, a god. Check out Levi’s funny comment on the potential fight below:
“Dwayne’s a very large man who works out a lot, but Shazam is a god.”
It’s notable that, instead of discussing the outcome of a fight between Shazam and Black Adam, the star chose to take aim at Johnson himself. The Black Adam star has made no secret of the fact that he firmly believes his character is now the strongest hero in the DCEU, but those claims have yet to actually be put to the test. While there have been rumors of a Black Adam cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, it remains to be seen whether the two heroes will ever actually go head to head.
In the spirit of Shazam himself, Levi is evidently taking a more humorous approach to all the talk of DCEU heroes fighting each other. With Shazam! Fury of the Gods potentially featuring some exciting superhero cameos, it’s possible that a future film with both Levi and Johnson is in the cards. While it remains to be seen how a fight would go down between Shazam and Black Adam, most fans would probably agree that Levi’s character’s god-like status would probably give him the edge over Johnson.
