Dolly Parton Sings Praises of ‘America’s Got Talent’ Standouts Chapel Hart for Viral ‘Jolene’ Performance

Published

on

Dolly Parton approves! The country music icon has nothing but praise for a new rendition of her 1974 hit, “Jolene,” which went viral on a recent episode of America’s Got Talent

Chapel Hart, a trio of talented songstresses from Mississippi, came out and immediately won over the AGT judges with their enthusiasm, energy and a creative new spin on the classic. The ladies explained that their original song, a tune called “You Can Have Him, Jolene,” is inspired by and an ode to Parton.

“We were so inspired by the song ‘Jolene,’ and we just love the storyline. And we figured, though, from 1973 to 2022, we could not still be fighting over the same man,” singer Danica Hart explained. “So we decided to tell her, ‘You can just have him, Jolene.'”

Parton took to Twitter to sing the group’s praises and offer a cheeky response to the concept. The songstress has long said that it was her husband, Carl Dean, who served as the original song’s inspiration and that she based the character of Jolene off a flirtatious redhead who stepped out of line.

“What a fun new take on my song!” she wrote, adding with a wink, “Carl’s birthday is today so I think I’ll hang on to him, and I’m not notifying Jolene that today is his birthday.”

Despite each of the AGT judges, and host Terry Crews, having already given out their Golden Buzzers throughout the course of the audition rounds, the judges did something special and very rare to honor the trio’s incredible performance — a collective Golden Buzzer!

“I mean, that was fantastic!” Simon Cowell marveled in a stunned tone. “I love you. And I loved the choreography going on around you. I mean, it was just brilliant.”

When asked about their efforts to get a record deal, Danica — who was overcome with emotion at the reaction to their performance, explained, “We’ve been trying to break into Nashville for the last couple years, but it’s been kind of hard, when, I think, country music doesn’t always look like us.”

“You know what you’ve gotta do sometimes? You’ve just got to break down that door. And you may have just broken down the door with that performance, trust me,” Cowell replied.

Parton continues to roll in the accolades, as the 76-year-old music legend was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year. The singer initially asked to be nixed from the voting ballot, but ultimately came around to gracefully accept the honor.

JC Chasez Joins TikTok, Asking His *NSYNC Bandmates: ‘Am I Doing This Right?’

Published

on

JC Chasez might be saying hello to TikTok, but his first post on the video-sharing site is soundtracked by *NSYNC‘s “Bye Bye Bye.”

The 46-year-old singer looked to his old bandmates for some backup in the video’s caption, tagging Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick and asking: “Am I doing this right?”

So far, so good, JC. In the 11-second video, a camera whips around a dinner table before focusing on the former boy-bander’s newly silver hair and beard. “Wait, that’s really bright,” he says as the cell phone light hits his face and he grabs the camera. “Give me this.”

In the next frame, you can see Chasez’s girlfriend, Jennifer HuYoung, behind him. He asks, “How’s this sh– work?” as the top five Billboard Hot 100 hit “Bye Bye Bye” kicks in.

Chasez’s first TikTok arrives two days after his birthday, for which Timberlake took to a different social-media platform — Instagram Stories — to send well-wishes to his old bandmate. “To my brother,” JT wrote to JC on Monday. “We’ve come a long way.”

Since his *NSYNC days, Chasez has released one solo album, 2004’s Schizophrenic, and was a judge on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew for seven seasons. In August 2013, he reunited with his bandmates for a one-time performance when Timberlake received the Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards, and in April 2019, he joined Bass, Fatone and Kirkpatrick to perform *NSYNC songs with Ariana Grande during her headlining set at Coachella.

*NSYNC fans will no doubt speculate what the new TikTok could mean for any future activities for the boy band, since Chasez tagged all his bandmates — who were already on the platform — and used an *NSYNC song in the video. When Fatone stopped by the Billboard Pop Shop Podcast in 2020 and was asked about an *NSYNC reunion, he said, “It’s not a no, but it’s not a yes” — so only time will tell.

Travis Barker Returns to Machine Gun Kelly Tour ‘Against His Doctor’s Orders’

Published

The show must go on! Machine Gun Kelly revealed via his Instagram Stories on Tuesday (Aug. 9) that Travis Barker will return to his Mainstream Sellout tour for the remaining concert dates despite the drummer’s health status.

“Against his doctor’s orders AND with a broken thumb, I convinced @travisbarker to come join us for the last couple days,” MGK wrote alongside a screenshot of a FaceTime call between the rockers. See the “Bloody Valentine” singer’s Instagram Story before it disappears here.

Barker hopped in on the excitement via Twitter, writing before the Aug. 10 concert in Missouri, “I’m impregnating the entire crowd at the @machinegunkelly show tonight.”

He followed-up by tweeting, “With a broken thumb and torn tendons.”

Back in June, Barker developed a severe case of pancreatitis following what seemed to be a routine endoscopy. “I went in for an endoscopy Monday feeling great,” Barker wrote on Instagram Stories a few days after news broke of the hospitalization. “But after dinner, I developed excruciating pain and have been hospitalized ever since.”

He said, “During the endoscopy, I had a very small polyp removed right in a very sensitive area, usually handled by specialists, which unfortunately damaged a critical pancreatic drainage tube. This resulted in severe life threatening pancreatitis.”

“I am so very very grateful that with intensive treatment I am currently much better,” wrote Barker, who was treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Wife Kourtney Kardashian also shared an update Saturday afternoon via Instagram Stories: “Oh what a scary and emotional week it has been. Our health is everything and sometimes we take for granted how quickly it can change … I am so grateful to God for healing my husband, for all of your prayers for him and for us, for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support. I am so touched and so appreciative. I am so thankful to our specialists, doctors, and nurses at Cedars Sinai for taking such wonderful care of my husband and me during our stay.”

Flannel Nation Festival Canceled After Everclear, Candle Box Drop Out

Published

on

Flannel Nation, a ’90s alt-rock festival set for Los Angeles this weekend, has been canceled by organizers after several bands, including Everclear and Candle Box, dropped out of the event.

The fest’s lineup was originally headlined by Sugar Ray, and included Everclear, Candle Box, Soul Asylum, Filter, Cracker, Fastball, Sponge, Star Zero and X Wire. However, on Tuesday, Sugar Ray and Candle Box both pulled out of the fest. Though Sugar Ray did not release a statement regarding the band’s removal from the lineup, Candle Box wrote on Instagram that it would not be playing the fest due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

A few hours later, Everclear announced that it was dropping out of the fest as well, writing that the organizers “do not have the adequate means to provide the level of experience our fans expect and deserve while attending an Everclear show.” The band also teased an upcoming “proper” Los Angeles show to be announced in a few weeks where they “plan to deliver the type of performance that exceeds our fans’ expectations.”

Flannel Nation organizers then announced that the festival had been canceled, citing “ongoing problems and logistical setbacks.”

“Putting on Flannel Nation as intended has become infeasible, therefore we are forced to make the tough decision to cancel this weekend’s event,” festival organizers wrote on the event’s Facebook page. “Our goal is to retool and reschedule the event and tickets will be honored for the new date.”

The festival was set to be held at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro.
