Kim Kardashian Supports ‘Free Gunna’ Movement as Rapper Petitions Jail Release

Published

on

After his arrest in May, Gunna is trying to secure his release from jail through a last-ditch petition effort. Now, Kim Kardashian is adding her voice to the choir of supporters calling for his release.

Gunna, whose real name is Sergio Kitchens, turned himself in to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office in May, and was charged with one count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).

For several months, Gunna’s attorneys have been asking a Fulton County judge to free Gunna on bond, to no avail. As he awaits charges, the rapper’s lawyers have filed a petition for a writ of habeas corpus with the neighboring Henry County court — the location of the actual jail where Gunna is currently incarcerated.

On Wednesday, Kardashian took to Twitter to back the rapper’s efforts with a simple but effective message, simply writing “”#FreeGunna” as well as the emojis “Free” and “P,” in reference to the artists song “pushin P.”

If Gunna’s petition fails, Gunna may have to remain behind bars in Georgia until January, when his case is scheduled to go to trial.

Gunna’s attorneys Donald F. Samuel, John A. Garland and Kristen W. Novay released a statement following the rapper’s arrest.

“Mr. Sergio Kitchens, known as Gunna, is innocent. The indictment falsely portrays his music as part of criminal conspiracy,” his attorney’s said in their statement. “Mr. Kitchens, an entertainer, and philanthropist, created the first ever local free in-school grocery and clothing store feeding over 400 children weekly, and nationally sponsored giveaways for victims of disasters and food shortages. Mr. Kitchens has been an advocate for his community, and it is our privilege to advocate for him.”

Travis Barker Returns to Machine Gun Kelly Tour ‘Against His Doctor’s Orders’

The show must go on! Machine Gun Kelly revealed via his Instagram Stories on Tuesday (Aug. 9) that Travis Barker will return to his Mainstream Sellout tour for the remaining concert dates despite the drummer’s health status.

“Against his doctor’s orders AND with a broken thumb, I convinced @travisbarker to come join us for the last couple days,” MGK wrote alongside a screenshot of a FaceTime call between the rockers. See the “Bloody Valentine” singer’s Instagram Story before it disappears here.

Barker hopped in on the excitement via Twitter, writing before the Aug. 10 concert in Missouri, “I’m impregnating the entire crowd at the @machinegunkelly show tonight.”

He followed-up by tweeting, “With a broken thumb and torn tendons.”

Back in June, Barker developed a severe case of pancreatitis following what seemed to be a routine endoscopy. “I went in for an endoscopy Monday feeling great,” Barker wrote on Instagram Stories a few days after news broke of the hospitalization. “But after dinner, I developed excruciating pain and have been hospitalized ever since.”

He said, “During the endoscopy, I had a very small polyp removed right in a very sensitive area, usually handled by specialists, which unfortunately damaged a critical pancreatic drainage tube. This resulted in severe life threatening pancreatitis.”

“I am so very very grateful that with intensive treatment I am currently much better,” wrote Barker, who was treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Wife Kourtney Kardashian also shared an update Saturday afternoon via Instagram Stories: “Oh what a scary and emotional week it has been. Our health is everything and sometimes we take for granted how quickly it can change … I am so grateful to God for healing my husband, for all of your prayers for him and for us, for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support. I am so touched and so appreciative. I am so thankful to our specialists, doctors, and nurses at Cedars Sinai for taking such wonderful care of my husband and me during our stay.”

Flannel Nation Festival Canceled After Everclear, Candle Box Drop Out

Published

on

Flannel Nation, a ’90s alt-rock festival set for Los Angeles this weekend, has been canceled by organizers after several bands, including Everclear and Candle Box, dropped out of the event.

The fest’s lineup was originally headlined by Sugar Ray, and included Everclear, Candle Box, Soul Asylum, Filter, Cracker, Fastball, Sponge, Star Zero and X Wire. However, on Tuesday, Sugar Ray and Candle Box both pulled out of the fest. Though Sugar Ray did not release a statement regarding the band’s removal from the lineup, Candle Box wrote on Instagram that it would not be playing the fest due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

A few hours later, Everclear announced that it was dropping out of the fest as well, writing that the organizers “do not have the adequate means to provide the level of experience our fans expect and deserve while attending an Everclear show.” The band also teased an upcoming “proper” Los Angeles show to be announced in a few weeks where they “plan to deliver the type of performance that exceeds our fans’ expectations.”

Flannel Nation organizers then announced that the festival had been canceled, citing “ongoing problems and logistical setbacks.”

“Putting on Flannel Nation as intended has become infeasible, therefore we are forced to make the tough decision to cancel this weekend’s event,” festival organizers wrote on the event’s Facebook page. “Our goal is to retool and reschedule the event and tickets will be honored for the new date.”

The festival was set to be held at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro.

Jennette McCurdy Recalls Being ‘Jealous’ of Ariana Grande: ‘I Made That Mistake Repeatedly’

Published

on

Jennette McCurdy is speaking her truth. The former child star sat down for an interview Wednesday (Aug. 10) all about her new memoir and her working relationship with former co-star Ariana Grande.

Speaking to Nightline about her book I’m Glad My Mom Died, McCurdy revisited the years she spent working alongside Grande on the short-lived Nickelodeon spin-off Sam and Cat, which happened to be airing right as the pop singer shot to superstardom with her 2013 debut album Yours Truly.

“You literally wrote, ‘I frequently made the mistake of comparing my career to Ariana’s,’” host Juju Chang read directly from McCurdy’s book. “And being jealous of everything — being jealous of her childhood, jealous of a music career that you didn’t even want.”

“Sure,” the former iCarly star responded with a chuckle. “I was jealous specifically that she played charades with Tom Hanks. That’s what got me. Charades with Tom Hanks! But I was so young at the time. and I think it’s really hard to not compare yourself to somebody at that age, when you’re in an environment around them all the time. So I made that mistake repeatedly. And I’m glad to be at a place now where I wouldn’t trade positions with somebody.”

In the book, the now-30-year-old specifically recounts a time when she spent an episode on set acting opposite a box after the sitcom’s writers had to create a scenario where Grande’s character was stuck inside the inanimate object so she could go perform at the Grammy Awards.
