Danielle Fishel re-creates classic ‘Boy Meets World’ moment 30 years later

Published

Some poetry is worth celebrating. Other poetry is worth unearthing after nearly 30 years and celebrating again. Particularly when it’s poetry by the “Boy Meets World” character Topanga, performed by Danielle Fishel.

Yes, as you might have guessed (if you’re a “BMW” fan, that is), Fishel has re-created the classic, weird, hilarious “donut in the sky” performance art poem she first acted out in Season One of the beloved series.

“The new episode of Pod Meets World is here!” she wrote in an Instagram caption that featured her hilarious, lipstick-smearing performance from 1993, side-by-side with a re-creation from 2022. “We break down ‘Cory’s Alternative Friends,’ the debut episode of Topanga and Donut in the Sky.”

For those of you who haven’t enjoyed a good sky donut in a while, you’re going to love the “hole” thing:

There’s so much to delight in this re-creation, including the fact that Fishel nails the flowing lacy dress and black stockings. We also think she deserves a special Emmy for fully committing to drawing lipstick all over her face again. Plus, she gets the moves down 100%.

It comes from the episode that introduces Topanga to the series, which ran from 1993-2000. The scene is this: Fishel’s character and Ben Savage’s Cory have been paired on a school report for Mr. Feeny. Cory wants something quick and safe for their presentation, but his partner goes full Topanga with an over-the-top demonstration instead. Leaving Cory to read her poem aloud, she turns on some music and begins doing interpretive dance, culminating with the face-drawing.

The poem goes like this: “Sun/ The only/ The one/ Donut in the sky/ Space/ Big gaping place/ Without/ Within/ Our skin/ Donut in the sky/ Freon/ Fluorocarbon/ Humpback whale/ So pale/ Exhaust/ Is all lost?/ Donut in the sky.”

“We could do that in front of the class,” Cory says after she finishes with a small bow. “But before we do, will you just take a huge baseball bat and hit me over the head?”

It’s also amazing to go all the way back to the start of the series, knowing that these two crazy kids eventually get married during college in 1999. You can see some of that starting here; the pair smooch at the end of the episode. There’s lots about that in the latest “Pod Meets World” podcast, which recaps the episode.

Promising review: “Bought this in a 3X for my 17-year-old daughter (5’6”, 220 lbs) and it is so adorable. There is nice support up top, too, without uncomfortable wires. I actually came back and ordered a second one for our cruise, because she can’t find anything else she likes as much as this. I might buy a third because it’s so affordable and swimsuits are HARD to shop for unless you’re a size 6–8.” —gmmarie

Neve Campbell says her ‘Scream 6’ offer was unfair, wouldn’t have been the same ‘if I were a man’

Published

on

Neve Campbell shocked the “Scream” fandom when she announced June 6 that she would not be returning for the upcoming sixth “Scream” movie, making it the first installment in the long-running horror franchise not to star Campbell. The actor said at the time that the offer to star in “Scream 6” did not properly “equate” to the value she brings to the franchise. Now Campbell tells People that she believes her offer for “Scream 6” would not have come in so low if she were a man.

“I did not feel that what I was being offered equated to the value that I bring to this franchise, and have brought to this franchise, for 25 years,” Campbell said. “And as a woman in this business, I think it’s really important for us to be valued and to fight to be valued.”

Campbell added, “I honestly don’t believe that if I were a man and had done five installments of a huge blockbuster franchise over 25 years, that the number that I was offered would be the number that would be offered to a man. And in my soul, I just couldn’t do that. I couldn’t walk on set feeling that — feeling undervalued and feeling the unfairness, or lack of fairness, around that.”

The upcoming “Scream 6” will once again be directed by Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo who revived the franchise with the fifth installment. That film, simply titled “Scream,” opened in January and grossed $140 million worldwide. Newcomers Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding are all set to reprise their roles from the fifth film. Franchise mainstay Courteney Cox will also be back.

In her original statement, Campbell wrote that it was “difficult” to exit the “Scream” franchise and added, “To all my ‘Scream’ fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”

“I absolutely respect her for that. I think that it’s hard to be a woman in this industry and in any industry at all,” Campbell’s fellow “Scream” star Jasmin Savoy Brown told Variety shortly after she announced her exit. “If any person, but especially any woman, feels that she deserves more — whether that’s a financial situation with work, out of a relationship, out of fill in the blank — if she can walk away, I support that.”

“Scream 6” will follow the quartet of survivors from the fifth movie as they leave Woodsboro behind and attempt to start a fresh chapter. Ortega teased the film earlier this summer by calling it the bloodiest “Scream” entry yet.

“Ghostface gets a lot more intimidating,” Ortega said of the “Scream 6” script. “I just read part of the script, and it just gets more and more gory. I think that this is probably the most aggressive and violent version of Ghostface we’ve ever seen, which I think will really be fun to shoot.”

Paramount Pictures has set a March 31, 2023 release date for “Scream 6.”

Ashton Kutcher Reveals Battle With Rare Disease That ‘Knocked Out’ His Vision and Hearing

Published

on

Ashton Kutcher revealed he suffered from a rare form of vasculitis two years ago that left him temporarily unable to see or hear.

The 44-year-old actor told Bear Grylls about his struggle with the disease while filming for Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge. The episode will air Monday evening at 9pm ET on National Geographic.

“I had this weird, super rare form of vasculitis, that like knocked out my vision, it knocked out my hearing, it knocked out like all my equilibrium,” Kutcher told Grylls of the condition, which involves inflammation of the blood vessels. “It took me like a year to build it all back up.”

“You don’t really appreciate it until it’s gone,” he continued. “Until you go, ‘I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to see again, I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to hear again, I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to walk again.'”

Grylls listened intently, telling Kutcher “What an ordeal. Talk about strength through adversity!”

Kutcher responded that  he’s “lucky to be alive,” and that “the minute you start seeing your obstacles as things that are made for you, to give you what you need, then life starts to get fun, right?” he said. “You start surfing on top of your problems instead of living underneath them.”

Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge premiered last month with the announcement of a new set of famous guests, including Natalie Portman, Florence Pugh and Simu Liu.

Like seasons before, Grylls will teach the celebrities a set of essential survival skills that they will later put to the test in some of the most intense outdoor settings.
