From Punkish Spikes to Old Hollywood Waves, the Vetements Runway Was Full of Hair Statements

Published

on

Today in Paris, Guram Gvasalia staged his first physical show for Vetements and made good use of that palpable IRL runway energy. After obscuring faces completely with masks to anonymous effect last season, his Spring 2023 ready-to-wear presentation served up a cast of exaggerated characters of all ages; ones whose looks wouldn’t be complete without idiosyncratic statement hair.

In the days leading up to the show, Gvasalia and the show’s duo of hairstylists, Pablo Kuemin and Jody Taylor (the former leading women’s and the latter men’s), met with each one of the models individually to discuss what their hair look would be. As a group, they drew inspiration from Gvasalia’s childhood memories, delving into sundry sources including the British punk scene, old Hollywood movie stars, and ’90s street style. As Gvasalia told Vogue: “This collection is about my life, it’s about my childhood, and my first acquaintance with fashion. It tells you every single story.” This resulted in directional hairstyles that ran the gamut from gravity-defying liberty spikes to neon-bright buzz cuts to cascades of retro waves—one set worn by Ireland Baldwin in a nod to Gvasalia “falling in love” with her mother, Kim Basinger, in 1990.

“Guram makes me a better hairdresser because he pushes me to always go a bit further,” says Kuemin, who arrived at the preshow fitting with 200 different HV wigs in tow and pulled out all the stops for the extreme spiked styles, mixing together sugar water and beer (“It smelled like a candy house and an old English pub,” he jokes) for an old-school setting base subsequently cemented with blasts of Virtue Style Guard hairspray. “With some looks, it’s pushed, like absolutely insane, others it’s stripped back,” says Taylor, who tapped into the show’s subversive youthfulness with a mix of punkish undercuts and gleaming “futuristic gamer” crops, some totally self-styled. “We wanted them to be antifashion,” Taylor says of the overarching attitude of the hair looks. “It was completely and utterly, ‘This is me.’”

It’s true that the Vetements show has always been fertile ground for extremes, but what do Gvasalia’s collaborators love most? “You still never know what to expect,” Taylor says.

Kesha Wore a Sheer Black Mesh Dress With a Thong and Nothing Else

Published

Kesha’s latest look is a strong argument for freeing the nipple (not that there needs to be an argument for freeing the nipple, folks!).

For dinner with her mother at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica on Saturday, August 6, the “Tik Tok” singer wore a skintight completely see-through black mesh dress. Underneath the long-sleeve maxi dress, she wore nothing but a black thong. The sheer fabric includes ruching pattern throughout, and the sleeves were laced from wrist to shoulder.

Kesha styled the whole look simply, allowing the dress to make a powerful statement. She wore her hair in a high bun with little to no makeup (bare is the theme of this outfit) and simple gold hoop earrings. For footwear, the singer opted for stylish black heels. She also brought along an elegant silk black robe with white lining as an overcoat to cover up her exposed body on her own terms.

In contrast, Kesha’s mom, Pebe Sebert, wore a flowy white kaftan.

Conjuring Kesha, a TV series in which the pop star explores mysteries, haunted locations, and supernatural phenomena, is streaming now on Discovery+.

Katie Holmes Gives the Boho Halter a Fresh Summer Feel

Published

on

Katie Holmes has been out and about with her new man, composer and musician Bobby Wooten III, this past week in New York City. The couple has been taking various strolls in the park (ah, blossoming love!). For their latest outing Tuesday morning, the duo braved the heatwave in light, summery looks. It was Holmes’s statement top that immediately caught our eye: a bohemian halter top with XL fringe.

Holmes’s halterneck crop top by Chloé is an elevated take on groovy dressing, especially given that it’s made of woven silk and retails for $2,350. (She’s been on a real Chloé kick lately, having worn the label’s bold striped knitwear last month). Though fringing feels like more of a fall-winter staple, the piece’s open back and cropped silhouette made it feel seasonally appropriate. The star also styled it well with black high-waisted trousers, a structured crossbody bag, and blue ballet flats (which, by the way, are having a cool girl comeback).

We’re totally on board with her head-turning top. For one, it’s perfect for twirling through the park with your new beau, like something out of a rom-com. But secondly, it commands attention while keeping the fit easy and breezy. Sure, a more simple halter top will forever be a summer staple—but we love the idea of having a few hero pieces in the wardrobe that pack a much bigger punch. And this one’s definitely a knockout.

Rande Gerber Gets a Haircut From Daughter Kaia: ‘Beats Going to the Barber’

Kaia Gerber‘s got skills! The supermodel gave her dad, Rande Gerber, an at-home haircut, saving him from a trip to the barber.

The Casamigos cofounder, 60, shared a sweet photo of Kaia, 20, at work on his mane via Instagram on Sunday, August 7. “@KaiaGerber cuts on the dock, sure beats going to the barber,” he captioned the post.

In the shot, the American Horror Story star was dressed in a black bikini and looked focused as she evened out her father’s tresses on a lakeside dock. Rande, for his part, smiled into the camera.

The father-daughter moment was praised by fans. “Great memory to have too!!!” one follower wrote. A second fan commented, “Sometimes it’s the simplest and sweetest things that bring the most joy.” A third social media user added: “Looks pretty good to me, a pro in the making!”

This wouldn’t be the first time Kaia has shaped up Rande’s ‘do. In 2017, Kaia’s mom and fellow supermodel Cindy Crawford posted an Instagram photo of the YSL Beauty ambassador giving Rande a cut. “Waterfront haircuts by @KaiaGerber. Anyone need a trim?” Crawford, 56, captioned the shot, adding a scissor emoji.

That time, Kaia worked on the back of the businessman’s crown as he sat patiently, facing the lake.

The Gerbers have been enjoying life on the water. Earlier this month, Crawford shared a video of herself and Rande taking a ride on a jet ski.

“Feels like summer,” the Illinois native wrote alongside the Instagram clip shared on Saturday, August 6. One week prior, Crawford shared a photo of herself and Rande posing together on a dock, teasing in the caption, “Welcome to Gerber Island.”

In addition to Kaia, Crawford and Rande share son Presley Gerber, 23. The couple tied the knot in 1998 on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The ceremony was a relaxed one, with Crawford walking down the aisle barefoot in a lace slip dress.

“I wanted to look like the best version of the girl Rande loves waking up to every morning,” Crawford wrote in her 2015 book Becoming, per Brides. “Rather than have my dad walk me down the aisle and give me away, Rande and I chose to walk each other down the stairs that led to the beach and the ceremony.”
