Is the New Dyson Airwrap Worth $599?

Published

on

A few months back we learned that a new Dyson styling tool—the Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler Complete—was going to drop in the summer. Not to be dramatic, but we may have added it to our calendars with all of the heart-eye emojis the character count would allow. Well, the countdown clock is up and the next-gen Airwrap is finally here.

The updated model comes four years after the original’s debut, and it features not one, not two, but seven (!) styling attachments and a host of fresh blow-dry features. It’s designed specifically for people with long hair and, the most game-changing update of all, for curly and coily hair types. (Curly girls, we know you’ve been waiting for this.) All-in-all, the Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler Complete promises a simplified styling process with salon-level results for all.

Before we get to whether the tool delivers on that sentiment, you should know how the newbie compares to the classic. The original Dyson Airwrap model included six attachments: a 1.2-inch barrel, a 1.6-inch barrel, a firm smoothing brush, a round volumizing brush, and a pre-styling dryer. The new Multi-Styler Airwrap Complete has 13. These include a wide-tooth comb for curly and coiled hair, two round volumizing brushes, and four smoothing brushes with hard and soft bristles. There’s also a more compact smoother that uses Enhanced Coanda airflow—which allows for air to be distributed more evenly and efficiently—to dry and hide flyaways by up to 58%.

The curling barrels also feature a twisting knob on the top to change the direction of airflow depending on which way you want your curls to spiral. This is significant since owners of the original Dyson Airwrap have to switch barrels if they want their curls to spiral differently. (Of course, if you do already have the older Airwrap, these new attachments—which can be purchased separately—are all compatible with the O.G., so you don’t need to splurge on an entirely new system to test out the newer tools.) The game-changing technology Dyson is known and loved for—think hyperprecise airflow speeds for diffusing and fast drying, and intelligent temperature control to minimize heat damage, plus a cold shot—all remain intact.

The Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler Complete retails for $599, whereas the original was priced at $450. The price is steeper in comparison to other devices in the Dyson lineup— the Supersonic Hair Dryer rings in at $430, and the Corrale straightener clocks in at $500. Because of Dyson’s advanced, proprietary technology, it’s no surprise that these styling tools are a lot more expensive than traditional hair-dryer brushes like the Revlon One-Step ($40) or the Glamour Beauty Award-winning Drybar Double Shot Dryer Brush ($155). Even so, a purchase like this is not light on our wallets, so we put the updated Airwrap to the test on two editors: one with naturally straight hair and another with thick hair and 3C curls.

Keep scrolling to see how the Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler Complete worked on the two different hair textures, and read our editors’ honest reviews of the new device below.

Goth Bride Megan Fox Just Debuted a Blonde Lob and Blunt Bangs

While she may have gone blonde (again), she’s still the same Megan Fox. On January 28, the future goth bride shared a photo of a small shrine dedicated to her relationship with fiancé Machine Gun Kelly, writing, “The pendulum says you guys gotta start conceptualizing the more nuanced levels of trolling.” The reason for her pointed message remains unclear.

Instagram, Megan Fox

Fox and MGK are no strangers to manifestation and rituals. In January 2022, Fox told her followers she drank Kelly’s blood after the pair got engaged. “Just as in every lifetime before this one and as in every lifetime that will follow it, I said yes… And then we drank each other’s blood,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.

“Yeah. So I guess to drink each other’s blood might mislead people or people are imagining us with goblets and we’re like Game of Thrones, drinking each other’s blood,” Fox later told Glamour UK. “It’s just a few drops, but yes, we do consume each other’s blood on occasion for ritual purposes only.”

Best Fashion Instagrams of the Week: Kylie Jenner, Timothée Chalamet, and Rosalía

Published

Is the point-and-shoot aesthetic making a comeback? Because this week, It girls such as Dua Lipa, Rosalía, and Bella Hadid uploaded photos bathed in the gloriously unforgiving whitewash of shoddy flash photography. Hailey Bieber even took things one step further and shared a mirror selfie where the beams of flash bisect her face. The whole thing feels like a harbinger of a Myspace-era comeback of fun, bad-on-purpose photography.

Meanwhile, there were plenty of more obvious and concrete trends to be found on the celebrity section of Instagram. Troye Sivan showed off his delightful spin on “womenswear as menswear” with a Loewe appliquéd cable-knit wool sweater. The fashion crowd continues to embrace the punk-flavored power of a Chopova skirt. Addison Rae added to the ever-growing list of knockout vintage Y2K, donning a wrap skirt from Roberto Cavalli’s spring 2000 collection. And Timothée Chalamet loves Haider Ackermann (just like the rest of us).

All in all, it was a pretty good week on Myspace—erm, I mean Instagram!

At Valentino Couture, Beauty Got a Club Kid Makeover

Legendary hairstylist Guido Palau, meanwhile, conjured a smörgåsbord of different looks: natural hair, slicked-back hair, two-tone hair, a bleached peach buzz cut, and a shocking pink mohawk. “None of the looks were really extreme because the clothes were so beautiful and crazy and quite exaggerated,” says Guido. “I wanted to keep it cool and kind of real. You know, when you’re at a club, there’s one girl with her hair pulled back and a guy with a great haircut, and then girls with texture. It just reflects today, really. But at night.”
