Beyoncé’s seventh album Renaissance dropped last week, sparking a million-and-one thinkpieces and analyses. We’re no music critics, but we do think the album rollout offers an interesting view into what’s in and what the culture cares about. While the record has been called a celebration of club music and its origins, fashion still manages to worm its way into the lyrics.
In “Heated” she sings “Got a lot of bands/ Got a lot of Chanel on me,” later adding, “Got a lot of style/ Got a lot of Tiffany on me.” Name-dropping luxury labels as a shorthand signifier of wealth and status isn’t anything new, of course — on the album’s closer “Summer Renaissance” she calls out “Versace, Bottega, Prada, Balenciaga, Vuitton, Dior, Givenchy” in quick succession, brands that are now part of our pop culture canon. No matter where in the world you live, you’re likely familiar with those names. If you don’t know who the creative designer is, you understand what they represent: luxury, taste, celebrity, Fashion (yes, italicized and with a capital F).
There’s a visual component to the album, too, and since this is Beyoncé we’re talking about, it’s almost as important as the music itself, but the imagery tells a slightly different story than the songs. The photos offer insight into her own taste, and perhaps more significantly, into what the culture understands as conveying forward-looking style today. The striking ornate chrome bodysuit Beyoncé wears on the cover of the album is not from a luxury label, but is made by the Florida-born and Los Angeles-based artist Nusi Quero. She also enlisted Giannina Azar and Natalia Fedner, a couple of new names for us here at Vogue, to craft the body chains that have become emblematic of this new visual persona.
Red carpet mainstays Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana are in the mix, but so are the emerging star Christopher John Rogers, and the Paris houses of Schiaparelli and Alaïa, which have recently been revived by the creative directors Daniel Roseberry and Pieter Mulier. CJR, Schiap, and Alaia have become shorthand for an “if you know, you know” buzzy new energy; their visual lexicon synonymous with today’s most fashion-forward It-girls and celebrities. Beyoncé has repeatedly worn Schiaparelli since Roseberry’s 2019 debut and has also been seen wearing Christopher John Rogers.

On Her 40th Birthday, Revisit Devon Aoki’s Greatest Runway Moments
What makes a good model a great model? For one, it’s their ability to radiate a constant, ineffable sense of cool, no matter where they are or what they’re wearing. Where that’s concerned, few possess the same sense of playfulness, personality, and versatility as Devon Aoki, the cult model who stormed the runways of Chanel, Versace, and Comme des Garçons throughout the 1990s and early-’00s, and quickly became a favorite of photographers like Steven Meisel, Juergen Teller, and Nick Knight. (You might recognize her from the silver screen, too; Aoki featured in Sin City and 2 Fast 2 Furious, among other films.)
While Aoki’s chameleonic ability to bend to the vision of whichever designer or photographer she’s working with—appearing as a prim and proper princess for Karl Lagerfeld, a coquettish sex kitten for Ellen von Unwerth, a cyberpunk warrior girl for Nick Knight, a kaleidoscopic hippie chick for Jeremy Scott—might have made her the star that she is today, her origin story is equally auspicious. Born to the amateur wrestler and Benihana tycoon Rocky Aoki and his wife, jewelry designer Pamela Hilburger (her half-brother is also DJ Steve Aoki), she was first spotted at a Rancid concert at the age of 13. After being photographed by Interview magazine, legend has it that Kate Moss introduced her to the modeling agency Storm; the rest was history.
By the age of 16, Aoki had become a muse to Lagerfeld at Chanel, was racking up appearances on the runways of Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs, and Celine, and was being booked to front campaigns for everyone from Tiffany & Co. to L’Oréal. In the early 2000s, she switched gears, primarily focusing on her acting career, most notably with appearances in a series of blockbuster action movies; by 2009, she decided to take a step back from her career to focus on motherhood after marrying her husband, financier James Bailey. Still, when her long-time friend Jeremy Scott came calling in 2018, she couldn’t resist stepping back on the runway, both closing the show and appearing hand-in-hand with the designer for his final walk to mark the return of one of his most enduring muses.
As the seemingly unstoppable Y2K revival rages on, it feels like Aoki’s arresting beauty, powerful runway presence, and, of course, her showstopping personal style, has never been more relevant. So in honor of her 40th birthday, here, Vogue is rounding up all of her best runway looks from across the decades—because whatever that mysterious, ineffable “it” factor that marks out the world’s most compelling models, Devon Aoki still has it.

TikTok’s Remi Bader Says ‘Sexy’ Revolve Collab Is a ‘Dream Come True’
Claiming her space. Remi Bader saw a problem in the fashion industry and did something about it.
Over a year ago, the TikTok star, 27, who is known for her realistic try-on hauls, shared a candid review of items she purchased from Revolve. In the video, the curve model revealed that much of what she bought didn’t fit and urged the popular retailer to offer extended sizing. The clothing company quickly responded, asking Bader to work with them on a collection. From there, Remi x Revolve was born.
After months of work, Bader and Revolve launched the 15-piece line — which ranges in sizes XXS to 4X — on Wednesday, August 10, at Revolve.com, something the social media star said is a “dream come true.”
“It was very fast, Revolve reaching out, which was just so shocking to me, because I just never thought something like this would happen,” Bader told Us Weekly exclusively before the launch.
“This [collection], to me, is everything I feel I’ve never been able to find easily for my body,” Bader shared, adding that she describes her personal style as colorful and sultry, but she couldn’t always find pieces that matched her aesthetic and size.
Bader continued: “I thought about all the issues that I’ve faced shopping and just didn’t want people to deal with that … This is fun. This is sexy. I feel a lot of people think that [extended sizing] is supposed to look a certain way and that you can’t have cutouts or be form-fitting.”
The New York native put that myth to rest, offering shoppers eye-catching two-piece sets, leather dresses, corsets, a bold leather blazer and more in her collection.
“I’ve never been able to find a blazer dress that fits me right. It’s either too short or doesn’t fit in the arm. So, making that perfect blazer and blazer dress was exciting. I also wanted to include a corset because corsets are another piece I’ve struggled with,” Bader explained. “The number one thing, however, was a pants and blazer matching set. I have looked all over and have never found one that fits. So, we have a three-piece that will be in the second drop and will be sold as separates. I feel [like] that is especially important because everyone has such different bodies and may want one specific size for a top and a different for a bottom.”
When it came to bringing the capsule to life, Bader was “very, very involved.”
“I was a part of the whole process, from picking silhouettes to fabrics, patterns and models. I wouldn’t want it any other way, and I’m really happy Revolve wanted and wants my feedback and listens,” Bader told Us. “They want to learn and do the right thing.”
The Victoria’s Secret PINK brand ambassador also welcomes feedback from consumers.
“Whether it’s positive or negative, I think that I would just love to see people in the clothes and talking about the clothes,” she said. “It’s OK if you think I need to add a button to something or should change something else … That’s so important. I’m happy to learn and make this better for the future.”
This collection has also prompted a lot of reflection.
“Everything has happened for a reason,” Bader shared. “I think all the negative things at the time that were in my life for me, you know, struggling with gaining weight, losing my job, all these things [happened for a reason].If I didn’t lose my job, if I didn’t gain the weight, I wouldn’t have any of the things I have now.”
She added: “I would tell myself, it’s all going to be OK. It’s all going to work out.”

Keke Palmer Gets Real About Her Struggle With Adult Acne: ‘I’m Done’
Keke Palmer got some things off her chest! The actress opened up about her struggle with adult acne and questioned why doctors haven’t come up with a “cure.”
In a candid video shared via Instagram on Wednesday, August 10, Palmer, 28, told fans she’s “tired” of dealing with the skin condition. “Good morning y’all, I was just thinking about the fact that plastic surgeons are amazing,” the Nope star began.
“They can give you a boob job, liposuction, tummy tucks, Brazilian butt lifts … they can even implant muscles, the list goes on, but they can’t figure out how to clear up somebody’s skin?” Palmer asked. “Are you kidding me?”
The Illinois native continued: “All these years and all these inventions, you can’t figure out how to take the beautiful skin from my ass and put in on my face?” She then joked, “I’m tired of it. I’m done with it. People out here with adult acne are struggling, and you haven’t figured out that cure? I’m done.”
Palmer further expressed her pain in the caption, writing: “I woke up and chose VIOLENCE. We want the QUICK FIX as well… My homegirl’s walking out the hospital with a DONK same day. I want INSTANT results too, WHATS TEA???”
She continued: “All these years!! Plastic surgeons, y’all wanna know where the real money at? IN CLEARING UP ACNE.”
The Alice star concluded her message by stressing that she’s over people telling her “find the PERFECT diet” or “get an expensive facial every other day,” adding, “Give us the plastic surgery we’re begging for, and make it possible for black skin as well… I need the dual love.”
Palmer’s followers applauded her post, filling the comments section with praise.
“THIS!!!!!!” one of Palmer’s followers wrote. A second fan commented: “Speaking for us that are struggling Keke.” A third said: “I have to say tho despite these surgeons not having the cure for acne, your skin looks so hydrated, glowy and supple!!!”
This isn’t the first time the movie star has gotten real about her skin issues.
In December 2020, Palmer revealed via Instagram that she was diagnosed with PCOS, or polycystic ovarian syndrome. The following year, during a November 2021 appearance on The Tamron Hall Show, she explained how the diagnosis has affected her skin.
“I kind of discovered that that’s what I was dealing with and it answered a lot of the question to, not only why I had acne, but why I grow hair on my face or under my chin, you know I kind of have a low-key beard going on that I have to shave every couple of days,” she told Tamron Hall about her symptoms.
Despite her struggles, Palmer finds it rewarding to share her journey with others.
“It was to empower myself and to give myself the opportunity to say, ‘You know what just own who you are.’ It was like me telling myself, ‘I love you, girl, no matter what. I love you so much that I’m gonna show your whole self to the world and I’m not gonna be afraid,’” she said in the interview. “It was essentially kind of like a selfish act of saying, ‘Hey, I still love myself despite what I may be going through and if you’re going through something like this too, I love you too.’”
When she first shared her diagnosis, Palmer uploaded a series of makeup-free selfies that put her natural skin on display.
“Hey you guys, for some this may be TMI, but for me my platform has always been used for things much greater than me. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome has been attacking me from the inside out my entire life and I had no idea,” she captioned the post.
