The scene in the bedroom was a long, five-page scene. I actually really liked that scene because it was intimate and had these highs and lows layered in. At one point I come back into the room after they shifted the camera, and I see Martin laying in bed. And he whips the covers open and he’s got on a corset top and I think a whip. He was playing a prank on me, but I wasn’t really shocked. I didn’t give him the reaction he wanted. [Laughs] I was like, “Oh, hey, you got a whip. Great.” He was like, “What was that reaction?” I think he was expecting me to scream, but I was so nonplussed about the whole thing. I have a funny video of it.
Oh my God. Not what I expected you to tell me!
I know. He was really trying to throw me, but I was unshakable.
This can be the preview piece for season five: Jack and Mel shake up their sex life.Virgin River‘s getting edgy.
We can bring back the rubber man suit from American Horror Story or something funny. I mean, it’s PG-14. We’re never going to get too crazy.
Except you watch, it will be season 10 and Mel still won’t have given birth to her child. Maybe season 11.
That’s my problem with the pregnancy. I was like, “You either got to speed it up or make a time cut. Because I’m not going to be pregnant for five more years.” [Laughs]
By the way, Mark’s mother is a total piece of work. Thank goodness it’s not Mark’s baby.
Yeah. I was like, please don’t let it be Mark’s baby. Because if I have to deal with this woman for the rest of time as the grandmother…[Laughs]. It’s fun though. As an actress, I enjoy sparring with people and having some conflicts. It’s fun.
Speaking of entertaining, what else can you say about what’s to come in season five? In ourpreview piece, you and I spoke about how important it is to see the show subtly address timely topics like abortion, miscarriage, contraception. How do you see those conversations moving forward next season?
I’m hoping that in the future we can bring more conversations to the table. In season five we’re bringing some more LGBTQ+ stories into the show, which I think is absolutely wonderful. I’ve been fighting for diversity on the show since we started and I think we’ve been slowly moving toward a lot of that. Certainly with our new showrunner and directors. Netflix is really trying to bring more inclusivity into programming.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have delighted royal watchers by releasing a touching new photograph of the Princess of Wales with her three children to celebrate UK Mother’s Day.
The light-hearted image, shared on the couple’s official Instagram account, shows the princess climbing a tree with nine-year-old Prince George, seven-year-old Princess Charlotte, and four-year-old Prince Louis on the grounds of Anmer Hall, their country home in Norfolk. Kate is balanced on a fork in the tree, flanked by her two sons, while Charlotte perches on a separate branch. A second image shows Kate laughing as she picks up a giggling Prince Louis, whose head is tipped toward the camera. The caption reads: ‘Happy Mother’s Day from our family to yours.’
The photographs were taken last year by royal photographer Matt Porteous, alongside the whole family snap that was used for the Wales family’s 2022 Christmas card. The group was casually dressed for the outdoor photoshoot: Kate wears a pair of dark wash skinny jeans, a broderie anglaise blouse from MiH Jeans ($352), and her go-to white Superga sneakers ($42); Louis wears a blue and white stripe polo shirt, blue chino shorts from childrens’ label Trotters ($56), black sneakers, and a belt; Charlotte looks sweet in a pair of Hampton Canvas sneakers ($39), also from Trotters, and a denim playsuit embroidered with a row of strawberries around the collar; George is also in Trotters, wearing $56 chino shorts with Nike sneakers, and a polo shirt from Ralph Lauren ($50).

Porteous has photographed the Wales family at key moments in their lives, including Prince Louis’ christening, the unveiling of Kate Middleton’s Back to Nature garden at the Royal Chelsea Flower Show in 2019, and the family’s 2018 Christmas card, which was also taken at Anmer Hall. He also accompanied the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their tour of the Caribbean in March 2021.
It is one of a number of posts shared by the Royal Family to mark Mother’s Day. King Charles III paid tribute to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, while Camilla, the Queen Consort, remembered her late mother, Rosalind Shand.
Sarah, Duchess of York, shared a sentimental post shining the spotlight on her daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Alongside a photograph of the princesses as children, she wrote: “I’m so proud of my girls and the beautiful women and mothers they have grown up to be. I feel extremely blessed to call them mine. My darlings, you are my sunshine always & forever. #happymothersday.”
Awards season and fashion month may be officially over—but that didn’t stop stars from serving statement looks these past few days. The best dressed celebrities on the red carpet this week were the ones who put new twists on the classics with cropped polos, formal turtlenecks, and unexpected neoprene gowns.
At the premiere of Extrapolations in L.A., for instance, actor Eiza Gonzalez delivered an elegant new take on the classic slip dress. Her Stella McCartney design featured lace paneling throughout, as well as asymmetrical neckline and shoulder detail. At the Murder Mystery 2 photo call in Paris, Melanie Laurent also proved that a turtleneck sweater can be formal—that is, if it’s a glittery gold style designed by Michael Kors, and paired with black high-waisted pants. At the opening night of Parade in New York City, meanwhile, Rachel Zegler also opted for a modern gown silhouette. Her one-shouldered silver Armani number had a cropped waistline, showing skin in a tasteful way.
It’s not to say the week’s best fashion moments were only seen on the red carpet, though. While out and about in L.A., Rihanna was spotted wearing a cropped Loewe polo shirt, exposing her baby bump underneath. Paired with baggy jeans and Timberland boots, as well as a monogrammed Louis Vuitton clutch bag, the polo further cemented her status as the best dressed mom on the scene. Bonus points: She also wore an earring that featured a hand giving the middle finger. A look with attitude!

At the Oscars 2023, Florence Pugh arrived in head-to-toe Valentino—and her look proved to be more fitting than she could’ve ever imagined.
Before stepping onstage as a presenter for Best Original and Adapted Screenplay, she pointed out that her Haute Couture gown from the Italian house matched the carpet’s new champagne-colored hue, something she wasn’t expecting. “We tried on this gown last week in Paris whilst I was visiting Pierpaolo [Piccioli] for his show,” she tells Vogue of meeting with the designer during the last stretch of fall 2023 fashion month and selecting the punk-princess confection she compares to “wearing a cloud.”
According to her makeup artist Alex Babsky, the fashion was exactly what he wanted to keep in the spotlight. “Florence’s beautiful Valentino gown was so voluminous, and her Tiffany jewels were so stunning, that I didn’t feel the need to add a makeup statement,” he says of instead creating “soft drama” from the neck up to play of off the silk, diamonds, and pink tourmaline in the mix. Keeping this balance makes working with Babsky “a dream” for Pugh. For Pugh’s gaze, the pro applied a “deep plummy brown” using Eye2Cheek Blush and Eyeshadow in 09 Poudre and Twin Liner in Black & Nero “along Florence’s upper lash line to elongate her eyes.” And to cut any excessive sweetness, Babsky “added strength by redrawing Florence’s brows in a more straight, geometric shape” before polishing the look with Rosso Valentino Refillable Lipstick in 112R, a blushy neutral.
For a couture-level updo, hairstylist Peter Lux spent hours hand-sculpting Pugh’s blonde lengths into a bowtied pony that flowed forward into clever trompe l’oeil baby bangs. “I trust him completely as he just plays with shapes and twists and bows until eventually he gets inspired,” says Pugh of watching him work. “He’s an artist!” Then, after a toast on the terrace and a swirl around the garden, Pugh was off to the Dolby Theatre for an evening of historic wins.
