WNBA Star Candace Parker on Her Continued Collaboration With Adidas

Published

on

Parker’s daughter is well aware of her mother’s ongoing partnership with Adidas and even partook in the creative process herself back when she surprised Parker with a bespoke pair of Adidas Exhibit B “Mother’s Day” PE sneakers in May. “We might have a little shoe designer on our hands,” Parker says of her daughter’s sharp eye, “I think [it’s thanks to] her being exposed to so many experiences, which as a mom I love, especially when it comes to shoes and apparel. She’s known three stripes since she came into this world—that’s all she knows!”

Parker’s relationship with Adidas is often cited as one of the longest-running brand partnerships in the WNBA, tracing all the way back to her days playing high school basketball. “Whenever you’re authentic in who you are, and a brand is authentic in who they are, there are certain partnerships that just work,” she says. Something Parker also prizes about Adidas is its attention to detail and versatility—two qualities that Parker embraces on and off the court. “Versatility. That’s what I represent with my fashion. I love playing with the lines when it comes to femininity and masculinity,” she says. “Especially on air when I’m working at Turner, I do try to mix that in. I’ll wear suits and bow ties with high heels, and I’ll wear a dress with sneakers.” The collection itself is meant to be worn on the court, and Parker even gave fans a sneak peek while playing in this year’s All-Star game by wearing her new Exhibit B shoes.

Rare Emma Stone Sightings Have Us Wanting Her Whole Wardrobe

Published

Emma Stone has been keeping a low profile since welcoming her first child, a daughter, with husband Dave McCary, but the pair stepped out for a grown-up date night in perfectly chic minimalist outfits that make us wish she would show us just a little more of her style.

In understated neutrals the Oscar winner and her director spouse sat courtside at a recent game between the New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers. (It’s a hot spot; the next day Pete Davidson went with Jon Stewart and Hasan Minhaj; Selena Gomez and Michael B. Jordan were at Barclays the day before—MBJ sat with Emma!) McCary paired a gray sweater with black pants and sneakers, while Stone wore sheer tights under her slacks and Mary Jane flats, a perfect feminine touch. She completed the look with a black top and a structured white denim jacket and minimal gold jewelry. If you’ve ever been to Brooklyn, you know this is the uniform of the super-successful: basics that somehow cost a thousand dollars.

Men, Skirts Aren’t That Scary—Promise!

Published

on

I’ll never forget the first time I wore a skirt. It was back in September, and I had just seen the Peter Do runway show during New York Fashion Week, which featured pleated knee skirts styled over dress pants. Feeling saucy, I decided to test it out for myself on a trip to my local Starbucks. My ensemble consisted of a black tee, black pleated skirt that I bought secondhand, and black dress pants worn underneath. “Okayyy, skirt,” my favorite barista exclaimed as soon as I strolled in.

I’ve always seen skirts as a genderless piece; As an Ojibwe person, I grew up often seeing men wear skirts at our annual summer powwows. But a fear of judgment and ridicule has always held me back from taking the plunge in public. Walking home with my grande iced coffee in hand, I was pleased to find that nobody even batted an eyelash. It was surprising, though refreshing, that nobody cared about my foray into skirts. (It helps that stars like Lil Nas X, Brad Pitt, Odell Beckham Jr., and Conan Gray have all been wearing them out, too.)

Sure, New Yorkers are largely unfazed in general, but that first successful attempt at skirt dressing has given me the confidence to incorporate even more into my wardrobe. And now, I can’t stop buying them. My growing skirt collection may have something to do with the market being—for once—filled with men’s options. While one could easily shop a women’s skirt, sizing is not always easy to figure out; I’ve attempted to buy some in the largest women’s sizes, only for them to barely fit over my knees. Instead, more and more retailers are finally stocking skirts in dedicated men’s sizes—meaning I no longer have to guess or hope it will fit.

The pleated Thom Browne skirts and sleek leather Rick Owens skirts on Ssense, for instance, now go from a size 28 to 40 waist. I’ve also been eyeing printed styles from Chopova Lowena and Liberal Youth Ministry, both of which go from small to XL. While this range is not as size-diverse as it could be, skirts in men’s-specific sizes is a step forward. My most recent skirt acquisition, in addition to my classic gray Thom Browne, is a black, asymmetrical Airei skirt with frayed edging. I’ve been enjoying pairing with my chunkier knits, like my new checkered Zankov sweater.

In experimenting with these skirt styles, I’ve realized just how easy and foolproof they are to wear. There’s really nothing to it: A black or gray skirt can be paired with just about anything, from knits to simple button-up shirts. Think of them like jeans—just a little more fashion-forward. They look especially good with a chunky boot or loafer.

Blush Nails: The New Manicure Trend That Hailey Bieber Loves

Published

on

A flush of color on the cheeks is a perennial makeup classic, but have you considered the same approach for your nails? The latest trend to hit our fingertips is “blush pink nails,” a term that currently has 45.3 million views (and counting) on TikTok. It taps perfectly into our current obsession with minimalist manicures, and Hailey Bieber is a fan of the look.

“Having a clean and simple manicure is super trendy right now,” agrees manicurist Alexandra Teleki, also known as The Hot Blend on Instagram. “Blush nails are a twist on ombré nails, but the design starts from a round shape in the center of the nail rather than from the top or bottom. It’s super elegant.”

Hailing from Korea, in its purest form, the trend sees nails painted first with a pale pink, sheer base. After that, a darker pink shade is applied in a circular shape to the center of the nail and diffused using either a sponge or nail brush. After that, a glossy top coat is applied.

Teleki preps nails using a base coat, then combines The Gel Bottle’s Cosmopolitan and Silk gel polishes on her clients, many of whom are requesting the technique right now. Admittedly trickier to try at home—but doable if you’re willing to experiment—her tip is to use a “small round eyeshadow brush or sponge to apply Peacćis Cosmos polish to the center of nails.”
