NBCUniversal has debuted the official trailer for the upcoming Peacock series Vampire Academy. The show will be based on the young adult novels of the same name by Richelle Mead, which follow a Dhampir (half-human, half-vampire) named Rose Hathaway (Sisi Stringer) as she trains to become the protector for her Royal Moroi vampire best friend, Lissa Dragomir (Daniela Nieves). The first novel in the Vampire Academy series was previously adapted into a film in 2014, starring Zoey Deutch as Rose. The film underperformed at the box office, and the Indiegogo campaign to fund a sequel never reached its goal. The property then went dormant until it was resurrected by Peacock, who announced their Vampire Academy series in May 2021.
The Vampire Academy series was created by two people with extensive experience in this particular subgenre. The first is Julie Plec, who co-created the long-running CW series The Vampire Diaries with Kevin Williamson, which was itself based on a series of young adult novels. Plec then went on to create the spinoffs The Originals and the recently-concluded Legacies. Plec’s co-creator on Vampire Academy is Marguerite MacIntyre, who played Sheriff Liz Forbes on The Vampire Diaries before going on to become a staff writer on both spinoffs; she was also a supervising producer during The Originals‘ final season. Armed with a cast that also includes Kieron Moore, André Dae Kim, and J. August Richards, Vampire Academy is poised to fill a new void in the television landscape.
Today at Comic-Con 2022, NBCUniversal held the panel “A Glimpse into The World of Peacock Original Supernatural YA Drama Series Vampire Academy”. At the panel, they shared the official trailer for the series. The minute and a half whirlwind of a video runs viewers through the main characters of Vampire Academy while setting up the huge burden being placed on Rose’s shoulders, before culminating in a series of quick shots of some of the thrills, joy, and romance fans will be able to expect throughout season 1. Check out the trailer, along with new promotional stills from the series, below:

These Vampire Academy promotional photos and the trailer share a first glimpse at nearly the entire main cast. Much like The Vampire Diaries, this new series boasts a large ensemble that, in addition to those previously mentioned, includes Anita-Joy Uwajeh, Mia Mckenna-Bruce, Rhian Blundell, Jonetta Kaiser, and Andrew Liner. Fans of the Vampire Academy books might be more pleased by this upcoming adaptation than they were with the movie, as it already looks like the Peacock series is taking better care at bringing Mead’s twisty, aristocratic world to life.
Typically, before a show comes out, promotional images depict scenes that are only pulled from the first episode or two. However, this slate of Vampire Academy images is pulled from various episodes throughout the 10-episode series rather than just the pilot, which was co-directed by MacIntyre and Plec. Between these images and the trailer, fans are certainly getting a broad view of what they might be able to expect from Vampire Academy, which already much more lushly produced and high-stakes than the original film adaptation.
